Phone Interview!

I have my first phone interview at 6:00 pm tonight (noon, EST). It's at a small (public) liberal arts university in the NE. I'm very, very excited. I also interpret this to mean that my application is good enough to warrant consideration generally.

I'll let you know how it goes.

***Update****

Not great, I think. I'll tell you about it in more detail tomorrow, but we'll maybe chalk this one up to "learning experience."

Congrats... now you're only problem is going to be all the offers you get and deciding which one to take!

Gotta love those "learning experiences"....hopefully it wasn't as bad as you though though.

phone interviews are tough - so easily influenced by stupid things like phone connections or sniffly noses. :-(

I recently had a VERY awkward phone interview that turned into a VERY good on-site interview. Moral of the story: I don't think the phone interview necessarily "makes-or-breaks" applications. And, I'm sure you'll have many more phone interviews to come! - I wouldn't be at all surprised if you end up having difficulty deciding exactly how many campus interviews to pursue! We should compare job hunt notes sometime. -Amy

We'll see. If I get invited for an interview (which I doubt) I'll fly there before Christmas. Generally, all the questions were fair. It was slightly more confrontational that I expected. However, the low point was when I asked if departments collaborated with each other and the interviewer said "The biology department needs a biology faculty member. Not a chemist."

In the meantime, perhaps you can help me. What about me makes me especially qualified for a job that is primarily teaching?

You're a FABULOUS teacher. You're great at breaking down the concepts in to manageble parts.

You don't expect people to be brilliant, just to try!

maybe julia or a prof from king would be willing to let you do a mock interview?

we do lots of mocks for our students on the job market

Maybe we could set up amongst ourselves a mock interview via Skype? I'd be happy to that.
